Research within our Urban Engineering department is very strong and an important part of the faculty's research portfolio. In the past year alone we have been awarded 1.5M in research grants and the total value of our existing grants is over 3M.

Practical Application

Our research is both fundamental and applied; gaining knowledge that can be put to useful, practical outcomes. Many of our projects collaborate with industry or public bodies and it is important to us that the work is highly relevant to our teaching. Both our undergraduate and postgraduate students receive lectures, case studies, projects and hear industry guest speakers as a result of our research.

Themes and Groups

Our key research groups provide further information about our core research activity:

  • Acoustics
  • Centre for Efficient and Renewable Energy in Buildings (CEREB)
  • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning

Research Opportunities

The wide range of research activities in the Faculty, together with the mix of academic staff, post-doctoral research fellows and visiting professors, allows us to offer a stimulating and diverse Postgraduate environment.

Research is mainly carried out at our many research centres or groups based within the Faculty. Most of our academic staff belong to 1 or more of these and research students can expect to join a small team working on particular problems.
