Consultancy and Expertise

Local Economy Policy Unit

Much of the department's consultancy activity is organised through the Local Economy Policy Unit (LEPU), a forum for academics and practitioners to interact. LEPU was founded by the late Professor Sam Aaronovitch in 1983. It's built its reputation on popular seminars, research and the quality of its publications. The LEPU journal, Local Economy, is now in its twenty-fourth year and has a fast-expanding world-wide readership. From February 2011, Local Economy will be published by leading independent academic and professional publisher SAGE.

LEPU is just one of the ways LSBU achieves its aim to contribute to developing and regenerating the London region. Through UELS it also connects with research, practice and policy activity in economic development from around the world. It participates in the OECD Local Economic and Employment Development Programme and is an active member of the European Association of Development Agencies. It also has strong networks across North America and in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
